Ethiopian Army's priority is to displace and kill as many civilians as possible

Recent reports coming out of Galgadud region in Guri'el, a small city of about 30,000residents, the Ethiopians came, instigated a conflict with local gaurdians consisting of members of AlShabab and Islamic courts along with city's youth, and then ran to the next city Mataban to continue displacing its residents. It is as though a calculated tactic was layout to displace as many civilians as possible.

Most of last Month, these same troops were terrorising Beledweyne, the capital city of Hiraan region where they either killed, raped, injured or displaced almost the entire population causing a humanitarian crises. After the Islamic courts soldiers, in cooperation with Alshabab fighters, arrived to rescue the civilians, the Ethiopians set route to Guriceel where they have done the same, kill, rape, sniper practices -they killed a five year old after using her as a sniper practice right infront of her house-, and displace the entire population the city.

AAccording to IRIN, Most of the displaced were reported to be sheltering on the outskirts of the town, without water, food or proper shelter. Osman Isse Nur, the deputy district commissioner, told IRIN on 30 June that at least 100 shells landed in the town(Guri'el) last evening [29 June]."

Since fighting between Ethiopian army forces -who invaded Somalia due to own most of its see ports for commercial purpose and to perform Bush's task to get as much Oil exploration rights as possible- and the country's freedom fighters intensified in early 2007, about one million Somalis have fled their homes. An estimated 6,500 civilians have been killed.

Aid workers estimate 2.6 million Somalis need assistance. That number is expected to reach 3.5 million by the end of the year if the humanitarian situation does not improve, according to the UN.

Five year old girl dead after being used as Target practice in Somalia by Ethiopian army sniper

On June 28 or sometime late of 27th of June, the Ethiopian troops entered Guri'el, a city in the Galgaduud region. The troops killed several people after they used as target practice. At least 5 people were reported killed by the invaders in this small city near Dusamareeb, the capital city of Galgaduud. Civilians in Guri'el report that among the dead was a 5 year old returning home from school who was shot by the Ethiopian army right infront her home. Apparently, she was targeted by a soldier a few hundred meters away with a sniper gun, perhaps show casing his talent.

The undiscriminate killings of the Ethiopian troops that arrived recently in Guri'el city resembles the tactics they use to create feer in the residents of Mogadishu, but rather forced the young men living in the Guri'el city to take up arms, and as a result, the Ethiopians were attacked from all corners of the city. There are also reports that unconfirmed number of Al-Shabab fighters showed up in the city later that day and their persistant attacks forced the Ethiopians to withdraw out of the city and build a premeter in a nearby strategic place. Nonetheless, the fighting between Alshabab fighters and the Ethiopian troops continue in the outskirts of the city.

In the past few months, Guri'el, spelled Guriceel in Somali, was a calm and peaceful city where many residents welcomed a large number of people fleeing the chaos and the nonstop violence in nearby Beledweyne, the capital city of the Hiiraan region, which was a large base for the Ethiopian troops untill they were recently chased out by SRA and Alshabab fighters. As a result, the forgein troops are looking for a save haven somewhere in Somalia.
